The Museo di Storia Naturale del Vulture (Vulture Museum of Natural History) occupies the first three levels of the Convent dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel on Lago Piccolo. It chronicles the 750,000-year history of the Vulture, a volcano formed in the Pleistocene era, which has been dormant for about 130,000 years.
The museum itineraries are presented as a journey back in time. Starting with an evocative depiction of man's journey through the Vulture area, we move on to the history of the animals and plants that have inhabited its slopes throughout the ages, and finally we come to the paroxysmal phenomena of the volcano, prehistoric man and ancient fauna. The section dedicated to habitats and collections and to the birthplace of the Bramea, the species to which the entire museum is dedicated, complete the displays.
The museum's creator and designer, Professor Spicciarelli, invites visitors to experience a tour of the museum with their own emotional journey, perhaps even a curious one, aimed at capturing the meaning and dimension of beauty in the Vulture area.
