The original complex dating back to the 1st or 2nd century BC is a thermal complex with a patrician villa, enriched in the 2nd century AD, probably during the reign of Marcus Aurelius. In the 4th century AD, a nymphaeum and an 11-metre-diameter apse were added, which, together with the nymphaeum, was fortified and enlarged between the 6th and 7th centuries.
